I was talking to Mitch Poole from Poole PR the other week. He's been working on a very interesting side project in recent months, managing the comeback of 1980s scouse band The Wild Swans.
I consider myself quite well up on scouse indie-type bands but I have to say The Wild Swans kind of passed me by. The singer Paul Simpson looks a bit too smooth in the promo shots and comes across as taking himself quite seriously. I think I'm generally more keen on the ragamuffin moptop Beatley-types like Real People, Shack, The La's etc.
However, I am most definitely indebted to Mitch. He kindly stuck a promo copy of the band's latest single, Liquid Mercury, in the post for me and I am converted. I've played the tune about 100 times this week and it sounds better each time I hear it.
I lifted the video below off YouTube. It's one of those amateur efforts where someone just uploads a selection of stills and plays the tune in the background but, if you ignore the visuals and just listen to the song, I'll bet you'll be hooked.
Come on Mitch, get the message out. They're good this lot!

Bringing Home the Ashes isn't a bad album either. However, you can defintely tell it was made in the 80's!!
