The Marple Leaf suggests that Blackburn Rovers is for sale for £25m.
£25m? Doesn't sound much for a Premier League club does it? Not when you remember that League One Tranmere was being touted on ebay for £10m.
This is my long standing gripe with Tranmere chairman Peter Johnson. He wants out, which is fair enough, but he's asking for a ridiculous amount of money for his shares.
Probably this is because the club owes him so much cash. Well, sorry Peter, I think it's gone, so either back the club with funds or walk away for a realistic price.
PJ's sky high valuation must be largely based on the land that the club owns, whether at Prenton Park or at the club's training facilities (it can't be based on valuing the players as assets, that's for sure!) and one of the chaps at work, Mel Harding, came up with a good suggestion the other day.
How about PJ keeps ownership of the land and sells the club without this land to the supporters or A. N. Other.
Obviously the new owners would continue to lease the ground off the current Tranmere chairman, unless he decides to build a supermarket or whatever on the site.
It seems to me that everyone would be a winner in this scenario. Johnson keeps his main asset but is no longer pestered to put further funds into the club, while Tranmere fans get to own the club themselves for a reasonable sum of money that could potentially be raised.
Whats do you think? Sound good? Anyone see a flaw in this plan? Shall I get the ball rolling?

When he sells the land you wouldn't get any of the cash and would be left homeless without funds for a new stadium
We would rent off someone else if it came to it - but it's supposed to be a football club, not a property empire
I am just being a dour pragmatist. Having said that, Barcelona are a fine example of a football club owned and operated by the fans. You never know where this thing could go..
